Speech and Language Evaluation:
We provide speech and language evaluations to identify any challenges that your child is having and develop an individualized treatment plan that best fits your child needs.
We administer standardized speech and language tests which yield scores identifying whether or not a deficit is present as compared to peers their age. We also observe the child informally to evaluate speech, expressive and receptive language, and social language. To determine functional and structural adequacy for speech production, we conduct a thorough examination of the face, lips, tongue, teeth, soft palate, hard palate, and pharynx.Speech Screenings are also offered which provide a brief evaluation to detect possible speech and language difficulties. If concerns occur during the evaluation, it will be recommended that the child be referred for a full speech and language evaluation as described above.Individualized Speech-Language Therapy
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and are child directed. Our therapists use a multidimensional approach to therapy to best serve your child. Each session focuses on an individualized plan of care to address deficits identified during the initial evaluation and any parental concerns. A home program is established for each child to reinforce activities performed during the treatment session.
Home and school visits are performed to observe your child in his/her natural environment and interaction with others. Consultations with educators and other professionals working with your child are made to establish the best plan of care available for your child.Specialized Treatment Programs
- PACE (Processing and Cognitive Enhancement) – An intense, one-on-one, cognitive training program that corrects and enhances learning skills.
- The Hanen Program for Parents – A family focused program for parents of young children who have language delays. Through activities and group discussions, a small group of parents learn to create and take advantage of everyday opportunities to help their child communicate and use language.
- Seeing Stars – Designed for children who have difficulty with spelling and reading. Develops symbol imagery for sight word development, contextual fluency, spelling, and increasing the speed and stability of phonemic awareness.
- The LiPS Program – Stimulates phonemic awareness through teaching children to become aware of the mouth actions necessary to produce speech sounds. This helps children to self-correct in reading, spelling, and speech.
- P.R.O.M.P.T – Finger cue system used to reinforce placement or articulators for correct speech production
- Oral-Motor – A muscle-based treatment approach used to improve muscle awareness, placement, and strength/muscle memory for speech production through use of various tools and exercises.
